Paul Kruger & Piet Joubert Jug

 

This small white jug (from the Netherlands) contains the portraits of two very important statesman in the history of the Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek. Althoug Boer politiclal oppenents, President Paul Kruger and General Piet Joubert seemlessly worked together to protect the independance of their people - the Boervolk.

Kommandant Generaal Petrus Jacobus Joubert (20 January 1834 – 28 March 1900), better known as Piet Joubert

Sir George White, the defender of Ladysmith, summed up Joubert's character when he called him "a soldier and a gentleman, and a brave and honourable opponent."
