Foreign Volunteers with the Boer Forces
Quite a number of medals were eventually awarded to members of the various foreign units who fought on the Boer side, namely:
- Hollander Corps - at least 90 were awarded
- Scandinavian Corps - some 40 odd
- German Commando - approximately 20
- Foreign Legion, under Gen de Villebois-Mareuil - 10 issued
- Irish Brigade - 5 issued
Some of these (especially Hollanders) served in specific commandos such as the Ermelo Commando, Pretoria commando, etc., and their medals are noted as being issued off these units.
