Boer's Weapon of Choice: 1893 /5/6 Mauser
Compared to their old clothing, the Boer’s modern military equipment usually looked out of place. Although many different types of rifles were in use (a number of excellent books have already been written on this subject) the 7x57mm Model 1893/5/6 Mauser long rifle was the true Boer rifle. Bandoliers, water bottles and haversacks or bread bags of all kinds and from all countries were also used. The most common bandolier was the 12-pocket Mauser bandolier with individual flaps for each pocket. Later in the war the British Lee-Metford and Lee-Enfield were preferred, as ammunition for these could be obtained from British columns.
